It’s that time of year again when the seabreezes start to kick, the northerlies are still fun and the water hints at warming up a little! So in keeping with the tradition of past years, SAKSA would like to invite anyone who is interested in kitesurfing to one of our three Open Season BBQs to be held at popular kitesurfing spots in Adelaide and Whyalla. The first BBQ will be 20th October at Largs (just North of the Largs Sailing Club on the grass there). – 12:00noon kickoff – Check out lots of demo gear – Free BBQ for anyone interested in kitesurfing Hopefully the wind will kick and give us some ride time in the arvo! See you all there and bring your family down! This is a great chance to meet local crew and share the stoke!
SAKSA State Wave Titles Results and AGM.
SAKSA would just like to thank everyone who made it on Friday night to the 2013 SAKSA Annual AGM and State Wave Titles Presentation night. SAKSA was overwhelmed with the support we had and it was fantastic to see so many new and old faces. It truly is a reflection of the amazing kiting community we have here in SA, its definitely the best in the country! Your continual support is what drives the guys at SAKSA so thanks again for all your support.
Speaking of support we would also like to take the opportunity to thank all of our amazing local sponsors who support us year in and year out. Without their support SAKSA would not be able to run comps and events and supply so many amazing prizes to you the kiting community. So a huge thank you goes to Bastian at Stance, Pete, Tommy, Sagan and Stewie at Onboard, Jordo at FSR and Jarrad and Josh from Boarding HQ. Get behind these local guys people, support the guys who support your local association.
Friday night officially got underway with pizza and the 2013 AGM. SAKSA kept the AGM formalities short and sweet, with a run down on the year that was, going through the current SAKSA financials and by electing the new committee to drive SAKSA over the coming 12 months. The official meeting minutes and SAKSA Financial report will be posted on the SAKSA website in due course, but the lads at SAKSA are please to announce that Croc, Jordo, Troy and myself (Rhys) have all be re elected to the SAKSA committee as El Presidente, Vice Pres, Secretary and Treasurer respectively. We would also like to thank last years committee members (Ev, Gards, Bart, Toby, Richard, Matt Mc, Danny and Peter) who have reelected to drive SAKSA again this coming season and welcome Bretto, Jorden Fens and Jarrad Morgan to the committee who all put their hands up to help out and instill some new blood to the committee. We look forward to working with you all this year and cant wait to grow the sport in SA and make the coming 12 months even bigger and better for our members.
A big shout out also goes to Doolz who has been a committee member for the last few years but has decided to stepped down from the committee this season due to other commitments. Your help and assistance over the last few years has been great mate and we wish you all the best with your exciting times ahead.
Then we got down to the official business, presenting the winners of the 2013 SAKSA State Waves Titles. SAKSA 2013 AGM and State Wave Titles Presentations
This year SAKSA has decided to combining its 2013 AGM with the State Wave Titles presentations. On Friday the 23rd of August the SAKSA Committee will be at Grange Sailing Club to elect a new committee for the coming 12 months as well as celebrate all the winners and participants in this years Waves Titles.
SAKSA will provide pizzas on the night from 7pm, prior to kicking off the AGM and getting down to official business around 7:30pm, with the Waves titles presentations not long after.
SAKSA is the state body that fights to keep beach access open throughout the state. SAKSA are constantly liaising with Councils to ensure our beaches remain open while also running events throughout the year for the local kiting community. The SAKSA committee is a dedicated bunch of people who give up their own time to progress kiting in SA and we are constantly looking for new blood, with fresh ideas, to better our sport for the wider SA kiting community. If you’re interested in participating, have some fresh new ideas or just like a social drink with some enthusiastic, like-minded kiters, then we would love to have you onboard. After all without the dedication of these volunteers, our beaches would be in jeopardy, and events such as the State Titles would not be possible. The more the merrier, as many hands make light work.
So please come on down and share your thoughts, nominate for the committee or just come for some pizza, a few bevies and a chat. It would be great to see some new faces down at the club and have some fresh faces on the committee. This is a friend and family friendly venue so bring along your posse for what should be a great night.
And with $200 worth of prizes up for grabs as a door raffle courtesy of SAKSA why wouldn’t you come along and try and walk away with the gold!
Cheers
SAKSA Committee
SAKSA 2013 STATE WAVE TITLES
Damn it?s cold already! You can tell because that frigid little bight in the air means you wake up with your feet inside the covers each morning ? no longer hanging half out of bed like you were only a few weeks back, with the fading Summer heat. But not everything goes into hibernation, come Winter time. The swell is up, the banks are forming down South and the reefs on the mid are showing signs of their former glory. With the Winter chill also comes frontal systems that will power us into the waves like we?ve all dreamed about through summer. As always, June and July will again play host to the most renowned wave competition in the country, as SAKSA holds it?s annual State Wave Titles. We?re expecting a great turn out, from those looking to just try their hand, to those going for the top place on the podium. Last year was hotly contested and there are a few crew at the top who are out to correct what they so closely missed out on. As always, with the Winter weather patterns, we are setting a 4 week window aside in which to run the event. We will therefore run on the first weekend with adequate wind and swell. We?ve checked the tides and we?ve checked the breaks and have decided that in 2013, we?re going to open it up to officially be held at either Seaford or Middleton, depending on conditions. This worked really well last year when we moved the comp down to Middleton at short notice, so we?ve decided to have it as an official option so you can prepare for it. The details are as follows. When: June 22/23, June 29/30, July 6/7 or July 13/14 Where: Seaford or Middleton Cost: $40 early-bird, $60 on the day (ONLINE ONLY ? NO CASH!). What you get: Entry into the comp, free Tee, BBQ & Soft Drinks. What you need: You must be a current SAKSA (AKSA) Member to enter. Once again, we?ll be running Juniors, Amateurs, Open Men, Open Women, Masters and Legends categories, so whether you?re just comfy in the waves and want to give it a crack, or you?re going for the title, get out there and support the association that supports South Australian Kitesurfers, SAKSA! See you out there and good luck!

TOBYFEST and End of Season Party
With the end of the season rapidly coming to a close its time to finalise all your entries to TobyFEST, SAKSA’s inaugural Short Film Festival!
Pro AV Solutions/Sony have kindly donated 2 Sony HD Action Cams as major prizes for SAKSA’s newest completion TobyFEST! That means there is no better time to get your cameras out and finalise your editing with the aim at taking home one of these amazing prizes. Even if you haven’t captured any footage this season there is still time over the coming weeks, particularly with the Robe Easter Classic just around the corner.
So what else do I need to know –
Film Criteria:
Make an short film between 30 seconds to 5 minutes in duration. Add some cool beats with the main focus of the movie being kite surfing. It’s not about the standard of riding but to demonstrate the stoke that we all get from this awesome sport! It must be tasteful and not portray kite surfing in a bad light (no illegal activity will be accepted).
Ensure a SAKSA logo is clearly visible at some point during the film and other sponsors or shops logos are also welcomed.
Riders are limited to 3 entries per person and must currently be financial SAKSA members.
Judging Criteria:
The overall winner of the comp will be judged by our very own Local Film Maker, Jonathon Baker. He will be judging the quality of the editing in the film, the originality and the overall look and feel of the short film.
A People’s Choice Award is also up for grabs which will be judged by your fellow kiters at the SAKSA TobyFEST/End of Season Party, where all the entries will be played on the night.
Entries: Entries close on Saturday the 6th of April 2013 and can be supplied by 1 or 2 methods, either –
1) Upload to us! There is an easy website called ‘WeTransfer’ which is great for files up to 2G, all you do is select your file from your computer, provide your email address and then ours! info@saksa.com.au and begin your upload.
Or
2) Get in touch with us on the SAKSA Facebook page and we’ll arrange to get the video from you before the night of Tobyfest.
TobyFEST Movie Night and End of Season Party: The TobyFEST movie night and SAKSA End of Season party will be held on Friday the 19th of April 2013, kicking off at 7pm. With a venue still TBA.
Remember this is all about showing the stoke we all get from kite surfing and riding with our mates. So get behind those cams, get creative, get your film on and make sure you get along to see all the entries on the night. We look forward to kicking back and watching what you have all put together and seeing just how many budding film makers are out there amongst our great kiting community!
Cheers
SAKSA Crew
