National Kiteboarding League is coming to Adelaide on 3/12

The National Kiteboarding League has Launched!

from the NKL website:

Resort and Club Management company, Classic Holidays, has jumped on board to launch the first Australian and New Zealand National Kiteboarding League (NKL), with a national event series to commence in November 2015 on the Gold Coast.

An initiative of the State Kiteboarding Associations and KA, the Classic Holidays NKL will build the profile of the sport and its male and female kiters in both Wave and Freestyle disciplines in a 7-round series.

President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said the national ranking series was a giant leap towards the international stage for Australian and New Zealand kiteboarders.

“Kiteboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, but until now there has never really been an opportunity for local kiteboarders to reach a professional level like surfing,” said Mr De Witt.

“Kiteboarding is fast becoming the most exciting sport for both competitors and spectators. This tour will not only showcase our best kiteboarders from around Australia and New Zealand, but importantly, it will significantly lift the profile of kiteboarding as an amazing spectator sport within the region.”

Classic Holidays NKL competitors will be judged in a similar format to the Virgin Kitesurf World Championships, formerly the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA), which is the major international touring event for kiteboarding pros and is now owned by Virgin founder and kiteboarding enthusiast Sir Richard Branson.

“We have got our sights firmly set on integrating our incredible Australian talent into that pool and launching them onto the international kiteboarding circuit,” said Mr De Witt.

For its first year, the Classic Holidays NKL series will begin on the Gold Coast and then travel to New Zealand for a trans-Tasman leg in Christchurch, before touring to Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, with the Grand Final back on the Gold Coast in February 2016.

Competition Schedule:

Gold Coast – 12/11/2015 – 15/11/2015

SAKSA AGM 11 September 2015 at the Grange Sailing Club

We must apologise for the late notice of the AGM. With the events of the last week, we made a decision to hold out on the newsletter for a few days. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope you can all still make it.

The SAKSA AGM is on September 11 from 7 PM at the Grange sailing club. SAKSA will put on the pizzas, you buy the drinks and we promise to keep the boring stuff to a minimum. It will be a great night to catch up with everyone after this cold winter hibernation!

It is an important night for SAKSA, as it’s when the new committee is voted in. If you think you would like to be a part of the committee, put your hand up. We meet once a month at the Grange Sailing Club (typically the first Monday of each month) for an hour or so.

SAKSA would like to see as many people there as possible, so let your mates know. There will be movies playing and there is stuff for the kids to do, so they don’t get bored. The kite reps will be there to talk about all the exciting new gear, and it might even be an opportunity to hit ’em up for an ‘early season special deal’.

If you’ve got any mates who are new to the sport or who are thinking of giving it a go, bring ’em along. The kite schools will be well represented, they can line up a lesson, get some advice or score a great deal on all the secondhand gear for sale at the moment.

Whatever… Bring your family, bring your mates and we will see you at the AGM!

The Vice President
SAKSA

SAKSA Presentation/Social night on 7/8

Hello everyone!

The time has come to present to you the winners of the last wave event on our next social night, Friday the 7th of August 7pm at the Grange Sailing Club

So, while munching on a piece of pizza and sipping a cold drink, come along to see who is going home with one of those hotly contested trophies that were up for grabs at the SAKSA wave titles!

Evan has again done an amazing job creating some pieces of real art work, and there are some wicked prizes to be won too!

Of course, aside from celebrating the wins of those in the titles, we would love to see you all for a beer, a laugh and a chat! Oh, did we mention, there will be FREE PIZZA?!?

Get amongst it crew! This event is for everyone, young or old, newbie or kite-aholic. So invite your mates, your family, and especially those new faces you haven’t come across before on the water. The more the merrier!

Cya there!

Yeeeeeeeooow!
